BRICS member Russia is taking a U-turn from its anti-American and anti-dollar stance in 2026. First, reports were out that the Putin administration is seeking trade deals with the US as an attempt to mend differences and seek business opportunities. Now. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference that the country is interested in resuming investment options with the US.

Lavrov said that once the conflict with Ukraine is resolved, Russia will seek investment opportunities with America. The US had imposed sanctions on Russia in 2022 for invading and waging war against its neighboring country, Ukraine. This is when Russia and China pushed BRICS to band together and cut reliance on the US dollar.

The diplomat stressed that investment co-operation between BRICS member Russia and the US will be of mutual interest. “Once the Ukrainian crisis is resolved fully, taking into account Russia’s legitimate interests. We will be interested in restoring and resuming investment cooperation with those countries that are willing to do so on an equal, mutually respectful, and mutually beneficial basis,” he said.

He also explained that several Russian companies operate in the US and are eyeing the same options. “In our view, there are such intentions, and there are companies in the United States ready to work on these principles, and there is also interest from the administration,” Lavrov added. This makes Russia take a full U-turn from its BRICS ideology of cutting ties with the US.

Lavrov is confident that the US will come forward with investment options with BRICS member Russia. “For now, they speak about business only in theoretical terms. Let’s first deal with Ukraine, then everything else follows. There may be very little left by the time the Americans propose to begin such a discussion in practical terms,” he summed it up.
