Google recently released a paper that highlighted how cryptographic securities could be broken using quantum computers. The report noted that a quantum computer could break Bitcoin’s (BTC) private keys in 9 minutes, one minute less than BTC’s average block time. Many fans and investors worry that a quantum computer could eventually break the walls that make cryptocurrency assets safe. A similar sentiment arose after Google unveiled its Willow 105-qubit superconducting quantum processor. Let’s look at three crypto assets that could navigate the post-quantum computer world.

Ethereum (ETH) has made substantial inroads in making the project quantum resistant. According to Ethereum Foundation researcher Antonio Sanso, the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap is 20% done with becoming quantum resistant. Becoming 100% quantum resistant could make ETH a very attractive asset for investors in the future. Sanso stated, “The good thing is that we have been working on it for many months, if not years. So, we have a clear plan in mind, and we are probably going to execute in the next years.

Algorand (ALGO) is another cryptocurrency that could be safe in a post-quantum computer world. Google’s research specifically named ALGO for its readiness for a post-quantum computer world. ALGO’s price seems to be reacting to the development as the asset has seen substantial price gains lately.

The third cryptocurrency that could potential safely navigate a post-quantum computer world is Hedera (HBAR). The project uses SHA-384 cryptography, as opposed to Bitcoin’s SHA 256. SHA-384 is often cited as being quantum-resistant. Like Algorand (ALGO), Hedera (HBAR) is also experiencing a price rally today.

While the above mentioned cryptocurrencies could potentially be safe from future quantum hacks, nothing is set in stone. Quantum computers are expected to get even more powerful as time passes, and cryptocurrency projects may need to further amp their game.
