The official announcement states, “whether to issue a release proposing new rules to create a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets.

The SEC’s proposal encompasses tailored regulatory framework for crypto asset investment contracts. This includes streamlined disclosures, safe harbors, and registration exemptions. The meeting agenda also outlines that the agency aims to discuss the replacement of outdated securities frameworks for certain cryptocurrency offerings.

The SEC’s proposed framework is narrower than the larger CLARITY Act. The CLARITY Act aims to bring more regulatory clarity and investor protection for the cryptocurrency sector. Either way, both developments are welcome.

Will The Markets Rally?

It is unclear what exact changes the SEC will discuss. If the rules are read as bullish, we may see a market rally. The cryptocurrency sector has struggled to gain steam over the last several months.
