Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, leader of the Crypto Task Force, says that tokenization is a technology that could “significantly” transform financial markets. The task force will be holding a roundtable discussion on May 12 discussing tokenization and DeFi. “Tokenization is a technological development that could substantially change many aspects of our financial markets,” Peirce said. “I look forward to hearing ideas from our panelists on how the SEC should approach this area.”

The tokenization roundtable was announced back in March and will be held at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington, DC. The SEC announced the launch of the crypto task force back in January, shortly after Trump’s inauguration. The task force is tasked with developing a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for crypto assets. The group has been busy in its first few months of service, working to create a more friendly environment for the digital asset industry. The SEC itself has done the same, dropping several high-profile crypto cases and investigations in the last few months.

SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins and his commissioners, as well as the crypto task force chair Richard B. Gabbert, will take part in the panel. Representatives from several top banking institutions, including Fidelity, BlackRock, and Franklin Templeton, will also speak at the roundtable.

Those interested in viewing the SEC’s tokenization roundtable can watch it online. For online attendance, registration is not necessary; a link to watch the event will be available on May 12 on www.sec.gov.
