The tech sector may have found its newest emerging arena as quantum computing has garnered significant interest. Although there has been debate on how far away the technology is, it may already have a leader. Indeed, Microsoft (MSFT) has officially debuted the quantum chip that could propel the stock to a $500 price.
CEO Satya Nadella unveiled the Majorana 1, which is powered by a new state of matter. Moreover, one expert recently noted that the debut is “just as revolutionary as a silicon transistor,” according to Business Insider. But what does that mean for MSFT stock in the near term?

2025 has seen increased discourse surrounding the arrival of quantum technology. Nvidia (NVDA) has assured that significant developments are still years ahead, while others are far more optimistic. Yet, irregardless of what side of the aisle you sit, it just saw a massive breakthrough take place Thursday.
Indeed, Microsoft has officially unveiled a “revolutionary” quantum chip that could propel its MSFT stock to a $500 price in the near future. Indeed, the Majorana 1 is a new chip that allows for stable, scalable, and simplified quantum computing, the company stated.

“Most of us grew up learning there are three main types of matter: solid, liquid, and gas,” NAdella said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “After a nearly 20-year pursuit, we’ve created an entirely new state of matter, unlocked by a new class of materials, top conductors, that enable a fundamental leap in computing.”
“We believe this breakthrough will allow us to create a truly meaningful quantum computer not in decades, as some have predicted, but in years,” he added. The question now is, what does the arrival mean for the company financially in the short term? Well, it may be too early to tell.
The stock has gained less than 1% so far after the chip debuted. But, its arrival could help Microsoft close in on its median price target of $500, according to CNN. Moreover, it holds a high-end price projection of $650, which showcases a 55% upside from its current position.
