The BRICS Sherpas exchanged views on co-operation with a set of priorities for the year. China’s representative noted President Xi Jinping’s emphasis on “high-quality development of greater BRICS co-operation.” The Chinese counterpart also laid focus on peace, innovation, green development, justice, and people-to-people exchanges.
On the other hand, India’s Sherpa stressed associations in line with a people-centric vision and broader themes of resilience, innovation, and sustainability. Each member is bringing a diverse set of ideas to the table that can uplift the alliance. The 18th summit in New Delhi will be much different than that of the previous ones.
In addition, the BRICS Sherpas reviewed ongoing initiatives and suggested a few changes. They also prioritized their alignment with other member countries to bridge the gap through sustainable efforts. The 18th summit in New Delhi will see more togetherness as the “humanity-first” approach is gaining shape.
The Sherpas also celebrated the marking of the 20th year of the BRICS establishment. Therefore, the upcoming summit will be a special event to commemorate how far the alliance has come. From being just a 4-member bloc to becoming 5, and then turning into an 11-member alliance in 2024, BRICS has achieved innumerable successes. Other alliances from developing countries are now looking to replicate BRICS, as it’s the only group that’s standing up for emerging economies.
