Elon Musk is at the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland, where he has given updates on Tesla (TSLA) and his opinion on world affairs. Speaking with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Musk touched on the United States pursuit of Greenland, AI and robotics, and Tesla’s Optimus robot. While his focus was scattered on a variety of topics, TSLA investors remained locked onto Musk’s panel, and the stock moved higher after his appearance ended.

Arguably, the most important update Musk gave was on the mass production and public release of Tesla’s humanoid robots. “Humanoid robotics will advance very quickly. We do have some of the Tesla Optimus robots doing simple tasks in the factory,” Musk says. In addition, he gave a more specific timeline on when we could see the robots up for sale.

“By the end of this year, I think they will be doing more complex tasks, but still deployed in an industrial environment,” he added. “By the end of next year, I think we’ll be selling humanoid robots to the public. That’s when we are confident that it’s very high liability, very high safety, and the range of functionality is high.” This is contrary to Musk’s previous public goals of releasing the robots in 2026, but it is at least an update.

Elon Musk also touched on the Cybercab robotaxi service and its expansion. “Tesla has rolled out a robotaxi service in a few cities, and it will be very widespread by the end of this year within the US,” he says. Musk says Tesla hopes to get approval for its robotaxis in Europe next month.

Furthermore, Musk continued his backing of AI and robotics, which sparked a slight climb in select tech stocks like Nvidia (NVDA). “If we have ubiquitous AI, which is essentially free or close to it, and ubiquitous robotics, then you will have an explosion in the global economy that is truly beyond all precedent.” He also said, “We will actually make so many robots and AI that they will actually saturate human needs. My prediction is that there will be more robots than people. Who wouldn’t want a robot to, assuming it’s very safe, watch over your kids, take care of your pets?”

Tesla TSLA stock is up almost 2% at press time.
