“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 billion defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times,” wrote Donald Trump on Truth Social. Trump accused the news outlets of lying about his businesses, which is affecting his hotels, resorts, and media firms.

Trump’s lawyers say that the reputational harm caused by The New York Times reached billions of dollars. The “reputational injury inflicted in this case reaches billions of dollars” and confirms they are seeking $15 billion in damages.

“Defendants maliciously published the Book (Penguan) and the Articles (The New York Times) knowing that these publications were filled with repugnant distortions and fabrications about President Trump,” according to the filing lodged in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida.

The President claimed that the fabricated stories have caused harm to his businesses and media organizations. “The harm to the value of TMTG (Trump Media and Technology Group) stock is one example of how the Defendants’ defamation has injured President Donald Trump,” said his lawyers, citing Penguin and The New York Times stories that led to “a precipitous decline in the stock price.” Trump’s media firm (NASDAQ: DJT) has fallen close to 50% year-to-date.

However, The New York Times and Penguin are yet to respond to Trump’s lawsuit. The lawsuit is ongoing and will be updated accordingly to the Florida court proceedings. The leading news outlets are yet to publish a statement on this matter.
