President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff policies have taken the world by storm, with nations now unveiling plans to protect themselves from the current market onslaught. In the middle of this, China has come up with a scathing statement for Trump, accusing the US president of fueling “protectionist bullying” by levying aggressive US tariff policies.

Is Trump Bullying Nations? China Thinks So

In a recent statement, a Chinese foreign spokesperson has accused Donald Trump of bullying nations. Spokesperson Jin Lian shared the collective discontentment that the world has lately been expressing for the US concerning the hefty US tariffs. Lian shared a scathing response, accusing Trump of “bullying” with a “typical unilateral approach.”

Furthermore, Lian shared how the US tariffs are a selfish agenda, catering to the interests of the US as a priority. They do not value other nations, with the “US serving its interest at the expense of other nations.”

Last week, Trump levied a 34% tariff on Chinese imports, with total tariffs on China adding up to 54%. Fears of possible retaliatory forces are already gripping the US markets, fueling a significant trade war prospect to gain momentum.

“Beijing’s aggressive posture signals that future retaliation will be more forceful, setting off an escalatory spiral and raising the odds of unmanaged decoupling in 2025.” A team of analysts at Eurasia Group said in a note.

Threats Are Not The Right Way To Deal: Jin Lian

Lian further shared how he believes unilateralism and protectionism should not be promoted openly. He later stated how the US tariffs are penalizing countries heavily, taking a toll on their goals and interests.

“The abuse of tariffs by the United States is tantamount to depriving countries, especially those in the Global South, of their right to development,” Lin later added.

At the same time, Lian criticized Trump’s “threatening stance,” adding that it’s not the right way to deal with China.
